SO, THIS time, we took all these crazy, wild, printed, psychedelic clothes from the 1960s and 1970s – you know, those groovy prints that give you an immediate visual flashback to ’em old times? – and dragged our very cute model Linda How far out in the faraway lands of Seletar, and snapped pictures of her in all these wonderful clothes in the hot sun at a little air base located near a cafe where they serve the spiciest chicken wings on the planet.

That was a mighty long sentence.

But anyway, back to the clothes: They just don’t make ’em like these anymore. Loud, screaming prints that defy rules in a rainbow of colours that sometimes clash in your face, prints that gel and mash, prints that distort perception, prints that add sizzle to anyone’s wardrobe.

Best of all, they’re so fun. Everybody loved them. We still love them.

INITIALLY, WE didn’t think anyone would want to look like a disenchanted mistress, really. We just thought it might be fun.

So we put our friend Maya-lynn in all these wonderful vintage dresses and shot her in a house shared by three bachelors – a hovel, really. But a hovel that managed to inspire us, with its built-in 60s wardrobes, grimy bathrooms, and well, general disarray.

Back to the clothes: It’s all rather grown-up, a little severe. There’s a smouldering sultriness simmering underneath the longish dresses with covered sleeves and muted tones. There are details that scream woman – small waists, curvaceous silhouettes, thick shoulder pads.

And Maya-lynn rocked it with a dash of flourish, and a devil-may-care attitude!

Now Granny wants to look like a disenchanted mistress, too. Anyone else?

WHAT DO you wear out on dates?

We wondered. And so this March, we put together date outfits for every affair in a fashion spread called The Dating Game.

Girl-about-town Stephanie Er shows us how easy it is to wow those suitors with vintage. And what a delight it was to photograph this doll-faced ingenue playing dressup in her own apartment!

HAIL THE mighty great vintage scarf – worn in 21 amazing ways!

You can wear a scarf in sooooo many ways. As a halterneck top, it’s sexy. Around your neck – very gamine. As a headband – whimsical. Our model for the shoot is Pearlin Siow – author, pilates expert and not quite your average girl with her athletic figure and lovely tattoos. It was an overcast day, soon after the Bukit Timah floods. We trooped to Keppel, and proceeded to tie her up, tie her down. She posed beside a canal, a pool, and a bay with boats. We made believe we were on holiday in France.
